Finally the beach.....and the floors are white!

I haven't seen them but my sister looked in and said "It's white in there!".......I said "really white?"  and she said "yes".   Well...what does she know....she owns a restaurant.   Besides, there is no furniture, pictures or anything so I am sure it is blinding :)

Before I left Atlanta, I went to Restoration hardware to look for cabinet pulls.  I went to Home Depot first thinking that I could find some really cheap ones that I would like.  No such luck.  I REALLY tried.  Then I went into RH and knew I was in trouble.  I saw these....
Oh yeah...come to mama.....glass in the middle.  I was fixated on them like a teenage boy looking at a Sears catalog in the 50's.  They did not even have one for me to take home and stare at.  I broke down and ordered them.....we'll see.

I will not even be home until the 4th.  To see the white floors.

I ran across some pictures of Atlanta designers Carter Kay and Nancy Hooff the other day and thought you guys might like to see some of their work.  I remember hearing Carter's name years ago when I first started in the business.  I always loved her work, but the two of them together have really done some stunning design.

This kitchen is going into my files for sure.

Holy crapness.....this has me totally in love.

More pretty....
I remember this vignette being in one of my favorites on the kitchen post I just did.
Looovvvveeee this room.

So much beauty...texture, neutrals.
I love how the window treatments are hung and the gold chair with the gray and spice color.
I know I have used this picture before with the modern lamp and the starburst mirror.
What doesn't work here????  A big fat nothing....
The opening of the door matches the top of the mirror.
I would love to recreate this in some way.
Hello gorgeous....the curtains just make me happy.
Yep...just plain pretty.

This is the kind of design that is timeless in my book.  Very well edited and not staged.

Hope you guys all have a wonderful Memorial Weekend.  I hate to complain but it is dang hot here at the beach.  Everyone is down in the sun and I just couldn't take it right now.  I ran 4 miles in the heat this morning and it about killed me.  So I am relaxing in the AC with my poochies.

Scott's finally!

I have so many good pictures from Scott's last month.  Can I just tell you that I could have written some bad checks?  Some months it seems like everything you see would be perfect in your home.  The problem is that I have quite enough furniture  so buying something would mean replacing something....which means sneaking it into the house and convincing my husband that it has ALWAYS been there.....and then trying to sell what WAS there.......or find a place to stash it.....yada...yada...yada.

Before we get to the pictures, can I tell you that my husband had a cold last week.  Now I know this is no news flash to some of you but crikey when men get sick they are SUCH BABIES.  He stayed in bed all day and I delivered no less than three meals to him.  Fast forward to today and I have the same cold.  Of course I will be packing the car for the beach, getting the dogs ready and doing practically everything so that all he has to do is throw his flipping suitcase in the car and go.  Bitter...party of one.

Enough complaining.....
Series of 4......so cool

Aren't they fab!
Oh yes...come to mama.....
More black and white goodness....
I LOVE this coffee table.  My base is similar, painted white, and I think I will put it outside for the summer to rust.  OH yea...the Mr. will be all over that one.  Your doing WHAT?
While we are on black and white....

Perfection.  Love this sofa.
And this chair could go with it!
Original finish on furniture...also love the wall hanging.  Hey...to the right is a rug that could also go in this room....See what I mean....
And then put this chair in to mix it up a little.
And a nice light fixture.  I find it amazing that most of these items were not together but I must have subconsciously building a room:)
Headboard.....slap me.
Yep....should have bought...cheap.
Drop leaf table that he just bleached!  You can buy this gel bleach and apply it to furniture to get this look....

The picture AND the chair.
Quite cool.....chairs and lamps.  Like ear rings....house jewelry.  Can't have enough.
More ear rings :)
I have a bench very similar in my basement....need to paint and recover.
One to some pillows

Beautiful......would match nothing in my house.  I would have to start over and this pattern could almost make me do it.  Kelley you rock.
These on the other hand would match.....
Brass AND jewel tones are back.  Never thought I would see the day......
These would match my house also.....remorse......should have gotten.
And this rug.  I saw these at the mart for the first time last summer and I love them so much.  I am waiting for some of those great DIY people to dye a rug.  You know they will.
Finally, what is more beautiful than yellow flowers in a tarnished silver vase????

So trying to get out of town today for 10 days.  They have sanded the floors and are painting them white while I am gone.  Then the sealer, which I hope will prevent me from killing myself that I put white floors in my whole house.  People, this will either be the best thing I ever did or the worst.
One of the problems is that the floors in the bedroom are white oak and the rest of the house is red oak.  Big difference, as when we were testing the strength of how white I wanted, when we would wipe off the paint to see the stain, they were turning pink.  SO....had to go a little more saturated on them.

I may have to have one of those baskets at the front door with booties [like in a showhouse] in them for the rest of my life.  And the dogs.....well that is a whole different story.  I know you guys are scared for me.  It is like deciding to cut bangs in the summer when you have naturally curly hair.....big mistake.

The winner...of the nautical giveaway!

I have been trying to post the last few days but honestly I feel so out of sorts with my house that it has caused my mind to feel cluttered.  Deciding to have my kitchen cabinets painted has turned into a much bigger job that I could imagine.  The amount of time it takes to do something in your mind is NOT reality....multiply it by 100 and throw in a little anxiety  and that is where I am right now.

Seriously....here is my LR.
Everything is out of the cabinets.  Everything has to be back in the cabinets by Tuesday morning.  They want to start sanding floors that day but I have news for them...maybe not.  Supposed to leave on vacation on Wednesday morning for 10 days.  AYFKM.....I am OVERWHELMED.
Breath....My house sure does not look like this anymore...

Never mind all of that crap...the winner of the giveaway is Kim from Savvy Southern Style.  I love Kim and her classic southern style... and that girl will paint you if you stand still!  Seriously I have never met anyone who paints as much as she does.  I am always asking her if instead of hands does she just have paintbrushes :)

One more thing today....I walk my dogs everyday.  It seems like everyone in my neighborhood does also, and I might not know the owners name but I know their dogs name!  The other day Jan and I were walking the neighborhood like we do in the afternoon and we saw a loose dog that we recognized as a friend of ours.  It is small Australian Shepherd and fast as lightening.  We could not catch it.  So I ran home and got my car and we started driving around.  Long story short we found someone who said it left the neighborhood and was heading down Piedmont Rd [very busy 4 lane highway] towards a shopping district.  Oh my lord...we were all over the place for 3 hours looking.  We called Anne Clark the owner and she was hysterical.

Finally we went up behind the shopping area where the train tracks were and there she was...she had squeezed through a small whole in the gate.  It is a good thing Anne Clark was skinny so she could squeeze in to go after her.  My ass would have never fit through.  We were all hysterical cause this ending could have gone SO wrong.  Moral of the story...put a lock on the fence as the yard guys shut the gate and it bounced open.

Here are the beautiful flowers she brought to my door the next day.

Have a great Sunday everyone.  I have some great Scott's pictures THAT I am going to post, I swear.

Kitchen love....

Since I have been pouring through  files of my favorite kitchens......seeing what things I can change while my house is in shambles.....I thought I would post some of my all time favorite ones.

I am not sure of the designers, or where I got most of them so please if I posted yours and did not give credit....don't hunt me down.

What is not to love here...I am all over that wall of windows.

Again...window love and the simplicity of the dining area.

Wowza....
Please...I want a brick wall.

This one was convincing me about the white floors....the black mirror and one library sconce is to die.

I love the black lower and all white upper.  Stunning.

The backsplash and the island.....come on.

White floors again....the island.
Dark grout....dining table in the center.....
The ceiling, love the color of the cabinets.  I think this might be the odd one that is not white :)
Whoops...I lied.  Love the stone wall, and that window to the left....whoa.
White floors again....no uppers.  Touches of black.  Shiny ceiling....BAM!
Simple, classic...taupe paint behind the cabinets...rustic barstools, light fixtures....hello lover....
Be very still my heart......nothing I do not absolutely love here.
Kay Douglas....Love. Her. Style.
More classic......paper behind the cabinets...subway with gray grout....
Finish on the cabinets....that funky cabinet in the corner....island.  Yes please.
Been in my files forever.  You know that the rest of this house HAS to be cool....that light fixture, those beams.
The cabinets...the floors.....those shelves.  This is one great kitchen.
No introduction necessary....mad talent.  White floors!!!
That island kills me.
The only one I like with dark kitchen cabinets......the light fixtures, the ceiling.
Floors...touches of black and white.  So fun.

I think all of these kitchens MIGHT make me want to cook.  But if not then takeout would taste so much better in them.

Picking a winner for the nautical  giveaway on Friday!

I saw the June Better Homes and Gardens out today.  My 15 minutes of fame is over.  Poop.
